Timber Frame Myths

Myth 1: Timber frame homes are cold.
Timber is a natural insulator so when combining it with the added insulation materials in fitted framing, it offers a more energy-efficient option. With improved airtightness over the years, timber frame homes have become easier, quicker, and cheaper to heat.

Myth 2: Timber frame homes pose a higher fire risk.
This myth is based off of the misconception timber frame buildings have more timber than a normal structure; however they have no general difference in the amount of woods, just in the style of how it is displayed. Timber frame home wood is also treated with fire-retardant. A timber frame building poses the same risk as any modern built building.

Myth 3: Timber Frames are unstable.
This dated myth points to a belief in historical UK that severe winds could topple a timber frame building. Timber frames actually offer flexibility which can allow buildings to withstand more than a modern building.

Myth 4: Timber Frames are noisy.
While many people have a concern that because of the open frame work that sound will not be absorbed and limited. Through additional insulation that is put into timber framing, sound is absorbed just as well if not more than in a modern built home.
